Paragraph 1: Romeo bumping into servant on the street in Verona

In this story Romeo and Juliet, the fate pans out to be all these negative things like how Romeo and Juliet shouldn’t be together. Even though they’re trying to it isn’t working because all these bad things have happened, for example, Juliet being forced to marry Paris. Also all the deaths that happen throughout the play of Romeo and Juliet, for example the deaths of Mercutio and Tybalt. Their deaths help the storyline on how the fate should be, these deaths are all ultimately linked to Romeo and Juliet’s death. When Mercutio says “A plague o’ both your houses!” it says that there isn’t any fortune and luck in the two houses. Something bad is going to happen to the families. It’s like telling Romeo that their houses are cursed.

Paragraph 3: Juliet tried to bend the line of fate, by ignoring her parents’ will that she marry Paris.

Paragraph 4: Fate in language: Metaphor

At the beginning of the play, Romeo had a bad dream about how if he went to the Capulet party it would somehow lead to his death. He thought that God set out fate that this would happen. He says “But He, that hath the steerage of my course, Direct my sail! On, lusty gentlemen.”. Which means through the use of a metaphor that God has already set out his fate and he will let him take control. He does this by saying that he is a ship and the captain is God. At the end of the play, when Romeo is about to end his life, he says another quote in relation to the first, because it is also about a ship that has crashed. He relates himself again to the ship. “Come, bitter conduct, come, unsavoury guide! Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on The dashing rocks thy sea-sick weary bark!”. This is fate because the captain which is God, crashed the ship, which is Romeo, into the rocks – which is the death he is about to inflict on himself.
